Fire escape shelf

Compare with few years ago, I have been less enthusiastic to shopping new design housewares. It is hard to find something attract me deeply. Ok. This is a good one. A shelf which build like a staircase which commonly seen in movies. Putting plants and miniature should be full of fun. Via fancy shop

Peel light

Same designer of canvas chair, making fun of illusion. That's too fun to light up in the dark. I just wonder how it looks like in a bright room....may be it has to be painted with same color in order to hide itself. Ammmm no idea.

What to do with a 3d printer

Looking at the technology development expectation in hype cycle, 3d printer is almost at the peak of inflated expectation , cloud computing is down trend as expected, and 3d scanner is up coming which I think should work with 3d printing. It looks like there is something big coming which will change the rule of games. Just like several years ago when 2d printing was still primitive, monotone lazer printers were luxury gadgets. Now it turns to scanning and printing of 3d objects, and later bio organic printing. Sounds big business. This is not my major concerns. I am thinking what will it change the domestic market: I dun need to buy things, just download and print it, sounds great. If every things come too easy, will it narrow the ways of thinking? Could be. Let me figure it out after I get a 3d printer, haha

Affordable resin 3d printer

I am exciting cos there are many funny and creative products and projects on modeling getting real in the market. Machines are getting smaller and affordable by hobbyist. I can try out more design work and build the prototype all by myself. There are a lot of toys in my shopping list again but if I get them all (surely I do not have much budget) , they need to be kept in a studio bcos they generate a lot of noise and dirt. Also any chemical is harmful.

This is one of my target, a 3d printer by Formlab. I discover it just a few days before the funding ended and I missed the last call. So I have to wait for its formal launch.

rebuild iMAC G4

It is almost done! Thanks to Dremel Junkie's blog instruction, I fixed the display problems and get the sandy bridge system with right form factor. Apart from the OS which I have to switch to Win 7, I keep most native features as possible: power supply, pro speakers, tray load DVD, rear panel sockets etc. And this spend me 3 month in building and sourcing from internet. Besides, I replace firewire with USB 3.0 which should be more useful for file transfer.....but this sacrifice the possibility in connecting Apple external iSight.
Well, a classic design should have a nice keyboard and mouse, HHKB mac keyboard  is definitely my first choice. Perfect match, right?

Strandbeast invasion

We have seen a number of reports about the big creatures created by Theo Jansen. The small kits are now available through different channels.  The one in the video is produced by otonanokagaku.net  which I have two kinds of assembly kits.

The other one in the picture is produced by 3D printer which does not require to assemble: it is printed as one piece. Interesting. <shapeway> via <mocoloco>.
Both are built with similar geometry, I would love to see more different design creatures just like the big scales and you can put them inside your backyard or garden.

A variant of Zoom chandelier

Thinkn of how to decorate my home. Serien.com has given me some hint starting with my Zoom chandelier. Its new version of Zoom has demonstrated using small crystals simply hanging on its joints. So everyone can upgrade his Zoom chandelier with own style. Thanks Serien.
